Here is part II of the sliver story (the last blog post is Part I).
Last week: My finger was hurting and not healing like it should. I examined my finger carefully.... you guessed it! There was still sliver in the finger. Despite the doctor's best efforts, they were not able to remove all of the sliver.
I went back to the clinic. Again, it took two professionals to open the wound and dig out the sliver and infection. My finger still hurts, but is finally starting to really heal.
PLEASE heed my warning ... wear your gloves while working outdoors and protect yourself from needless injury.

PS My husband wants me to mention that he told me to put my gloves on :)
On Saturday, March 21, I was spring cleaning the yard and cut back some thorny bushes. I was not wearing gloves. Later in the day, I noticed a scratch on my finger. Next to the scratch was a gray spot, which I assumed was a sliver. I got a needle and tried to dig it out, no luck.
Fast forward one week. On Friday, March 27, I called the clinic on campus and asked if they could help with a sliver. The receptionist responded, yes! So I went in on Friday afternoon.
The doctor and the nurse were so gentle. I felt like I had to apologize for wasting their time with a splinter. The good doctor numbed my finger and got to work. It turned out to be more than what was bargained for and another doctor was called in to assist. The nurse even flinched. They bandaged up my finger and sent me away with antibiotics.

Ouch! |
Saturday morning, I woke up with a super nice rash. Went to the clinic, where the nurse practitioner said, "Holy smokes" when she saw my finger. Another antibiotic was prescribed.
Monday morning I woke up with a even better rash. This one itched like fire. Went back to the campus clinic. The good doctor stuck a needle in my finger to drain it and gave me a new antibiotic.
THE MORAL OF THE STORY:
Garden gloves would have likely prevented this whole mess. Reduce risk of injury and WEAR the gloves! My husband wants me to mention that he told me to put my gloves on.
